Malibu Boats
Malibu is an American company that manufactures recreational boats. It was founded in 1982 and it’s based in Merced, California.
Malibu is famous for being a major manufacturer of water sports boats used in wakeboarding and water skiing tournaments.
The Malibu boating company has an interesting history. It all started when Robert Alkema and five of his friends took a decision to start manufacturing their own ski boats.
That’s how they started a small shop in Merced and in 1982 produced 100 custom ski boats. During this first year of production, they would only built 2 boats per week, and there was just one hull design. But eventually, things started to evolve and grown and soon they became a real force in the ski boat industry. Ever since 1982, the company has won more awards than all other competitors put together.
Nowadays, Malibu is a privately owned company with over 600 employees. Founder Robert Alkema is the current CEO of Malibu and four of the five members that started it still work with the company. Read more »
